Portrait: Heinrich Bullinger

Landesmuseum Zurich: Heinricus Bulingerus Pastor Tig.

Zentralbibliothek Zurich, Inv 103a.

The correspondence of the Zurich reformer Heinrich Bullinger (1504–1575), the successor to Huldrych Zwingli, is of extraordinary historical and theological importance and is probably the most extensive correspondence of the 16th century in terms of quantity (cf. the dates and map (PDF, 3 MB) for the letter edition). The critical edition of this correspondence already has a long history.

The edition of the correspondence is affiliated with the Institute for Swiss Reformation Studies at the University of Zurich and was funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and the Protestant Reformed Church of the Canton of Zurich until the end of 2020.

We are very grateful for the support of the Heinrich Bullinger Foundation, which will enable us to continue this important basic research project until 2034 for the time being.
