Project overview

To mark Bullinger's 400th birthday, Emil Egli published an edition of Heinrich Bullinger's “Diarium” – a diary that is an incomparable contemporary document. The diary not only opens a window on the events of the 16th century, but also provides a cultural appreciation of the Reformation era and reveals many details of Bullinger's theological and political thinking.

As part of the edition of Bullinger's writings, a new edition of Bullinger's diary is now a desideratum. Since Egli, not only have there been changes in the requirements and guidelines for the edition of early modern texts, but research on Bullinger and his vita has also become much more differentiated in recent decades. The new edition of the Diarium attempts to take these circumstances into account.
