Front page, Heinrich Bullinger De prophetae officio

De prophetae officio is Heinrich Bullinger’s first high-profile writing after the turmoil of the Second Cappel War and his assumption of office as antistes of the Zurich churches. In this speech, delivered to the Zurich Council on Karlstag on January 28, 1532 and subsequently recorded in writing, Bullinger describes the finely balanced tasks of the “prophet”, i.e. the preacher, in the tense relationship between the civil and church communities. This work, published by the Zurich printer Christoph Froschauer, is one of the most important writings of Zwingli’s successor and marks the beginning of his public activity. De prophetae officio is to be published in a volume of the series “Heinrich Bullinger Werke, 3. Abteilung: Theologische Schriften” together with three other programmatic treatises by the Zurich antist: De testamento seu foedere Dei (1534), Assertio utriusque in Christo naturae (1534), Der alt gloub (1537).
