Programmatic Writings: Der alt gloub (1537)

Cover, Der alt gloub

Project Description

In Der alt gloub, which Bullinger wrote at the request of the Solothurn councillor Johann Heinrich Winkeli, the Zurich antistes outlines the history of faith from the beginnings of the world to the time of the apostles. The intention of the text is clearly apologetic: to counter the accusation that the Reformed were innovators, he wanted to affirm that they held on to the one, old faith. The alt gloub is edited historically-critically on the basis of the first (1537) and the second edition (1539). This work is to be published in a volume of the series “Heinrich Bullinger Werke, 3. Abteilung: Theologische Schriften” together with three other programmatic treatises by the Zurich antist: De prophetae officio (1532), De testamento seu foedere Dei (1534), Assertio utriusque in Christo naturae (1534).
