Conference “Bringing the Bible to the People”, May 14–17, 2025

2025 – 500 years Prophezey
A cooperation between the Institute for Swiss Reformation Studies at the TRF (Prof. Dr. Tobias Jammerthal) and the Department of History at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences of the UZH (Prof. Dr. Francisca Loetz).
The Reformation has repeatedly been described as an “educational movement”. The Holy Scriptures were to become accessible to all. On the occasion of the five-hundredth anniversary of the “Prophezey”, the conference “Bringing the Bible to the people” aims to discuss church-historical and general-historical approaches to media and processes of religious knowledge transfer in German- and French-speaking early modern Reformism. We invite you to an interdisciplinary exchange.

Conference “500 Years of the Anabaptist Movement in Switzerland”, June 1–4, 2025

2025 – 500 years Prophezey
A cooperation of the Institute for Swiss Reformation Studies at the TRF (Prof. Dr. Tobias Jammerthal) with the Zentralbibliothek Zurich (Dr. Urs B. Leu) and the School of Theology Reutlingen of the Methodist Church (Prof. Dr. Jonathan Reinert).
While teaching, research, praying and preaching took place in the Prophezey, far-reaching changes were taking place in the city and the countryside: Earlier followers of Huldrych Zwingli questioned the traditional practice of infant baptism. After attempts to reach an agreement with Zwingli and the authorities came to nothing, the first adult on Zurich soil was baptized again in January 1525. How should these first so-called Anabaptists be assessed? What were their motives, how did they argue – and what developed from these beginnings? An international symposium will explore these questions.
